I'm thrilled to finally share it with you!
I've been keeping a bit of a secret for weeks, and I'm so glad I can now spread my good news. I recently appeared as a guest on the Think Tank of Three podcast to talk about the concerning rise of book bans and book challenges across the country. The episode drops today!
It was a joy to talk with the Think Tank of Three hosts Julie Holton and Reischea Canidate-Kapasouris about an issue that is so important to me. You can watch the Think Tank of Three Podcast on YouTube and Spotify, and listen on all major podcast platforms. The direct links are here.
You may have seen the headlines about books being pulled from shelves in school and public libraries. The American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom documented more than 1200 separate demands to censor library books and resources in 2022, the highest number of attempted book bans since ALA began compiling data about censorship in libraries more than 20 years ago.
Preliminary data for 2023 shows a continued uptick in attempts to censor books, materials, and services. I shared more about my thoughts on book bans and challenges in this blog post from October, Why I Read Banned Books.
Your time is valuable, especially during the busy holiday season. But if you'd like to hear more about this issue, please consider listening to this podcast episode. Think Tank of Three tackles a host of topics to empower and support so be sure to browse all of their offerings.
I'll have new posts on this blog soon, including a look at my Reading Year in Review and Reading Challenges Ideas for 2024.
Until then, keep enjoying the books you love, and best wishes for further reading!
